This plastic figurine represents an Australian Shepherd, a breed of shepherd dog which, contrary to its name, does not originate from distant Oceania but... from the Basque Country! As they emigrated in large numbers to the southern hemisphere during the 19th century, they took their dogs with them. The latter showed such skill in herding sheep that their service was subsequently called upon on the North American continent. This is where the name ""Australian Shepherd"" appeared.
