A breed native to Switzerland, the Valais black-nosed sheep has dark pigmentation, particularly on its nose and around its eyes, which contrasts with the white colour of its wool. Adapted to the difficult conditions of mountainous regions, its traditional breeding is often linked to transhumance, where flocks are moved between summer and winter pastures. This species is the subject of conservation programmes aimed at preserving the breed and its genetic heritage.
