Intended as a sequel to the painting "The Abduction of the Sabine Women" by Nicolas Poussin, this large canvas, more than 5 meters wide and almost 4 meters high, was painted in four years and completed in 1799. It represents the Sabines stopping the fight between the Sabines led by Tatius and the Romans led by Romulus.
