Buffon zoological magnets in wood - National Museum of Natural History - Vilac

Vilac is very proud to present this set of wooden zoological magnets created in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History.

Georges-Louis Leclerc, Count of Buffon, (1707-1788) directed the Royal Garden of Plants for nearly fifty years, from 1739 until his death: his Natural History, in 36 illustrated volumes, was a success from the moment it was published. The animal representations contained in the work have served as a source of inspiration for fine arts, fashion, decoration, educational works and books for young people.
As evidenced by the Le Buffon lotto game: game illustrated lotto, decorated with all kinds published in Paris by Appert fils et Vavasseur around 1840. The 96 animal figures present on the 24 boxes which compose it were created by Nicolas Fleuri Jannin.

These magnets are inspired by the illustrations appearing in the lotto game, a copy of which is kept at the National Museum of Natural History, within the collections of the Directorate of Libraries and Documentation.
