The white peacock has identical characteristics to the blue peacock, except that it has undergone a genetic mutation called leucism. So the white peacock is not an albino! Its dazzling whiteness embodies grace and is often associated with beauty. This notorious species of bird is native to the forests of Asia, more specifically India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, but it has been kept as a domestic animal throughout the world since Antiquity, because of its majestic finery.  In its natural habitat, it lives close to waterways. Despite its imposing size, the peacock can fly, but it is preferably a terrestrial animal that walks, climbs and runs rather than flies. To attract females, the peacock's very long back feathers form a train that the male fans out during courtship. He is said to "do a cartwheel". 

The peacock is an omnivorous animal. Its diet consists of seeds, grasses, leaves, flower petals, berries and fruit (it loves wild figs!), all kinds of insects and their larvae, small lizards, frogs, small mammals and even snakes... You can recognise the peacock's shrill cry. The peacock is an edible fowl, but it is traditionally used as an ornament in large parks, gardens and sometimes zoos. Its feathers are used to decorate hats and bouquets. In popular culture, it is a religious symbol and a recurring theme in fine art.
