The butterfly is the adult form of the caterpillar. This magnificent animal fascinates both with its shapes and its multiple colors. The oldest traces and fossils of butterflies that have been found show that these winged insects already lived on the planet more than 200 million years ago, alongside the first dinosaurs. Like all insects, the butterfly is characterized by three pairs of legs; it also has two pairs of wings which are covered with scales of very varied colors depending on the species.  Butterflies lay eggs which give rise to caterpillars.  The caterpillars transform into chrysalises, then into a butterfly! Their biological cycle is therefore made up of four distinct stages: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly.
